Here are some really easy ways to stick it to billionaires that will even save you money and be great for the planet.
Don’t waste food. Don’t buy more food than you can eat and make sure to eat it all. If you know you’re not going to eat it all, give it away before it goes bad (or stick it in your freezer). Learn how to properly store different kinds of food/product so it lasts the longest.
Don’t buy disposable goods. Find good quality durable goods instead of disposable. I use real silverware when I go camping. It’s way cheaper in most instances and keeps a whole bunch of crap out of the landfill. Trees are a precious resource. Yet we buy paper plates to throw away right after we use them. Earth’s resources are too valuable for disposable goods. We do not have finite natural resources, and anything made out of plastic is poison to us and our environment. If you have to buy plastic, for the love of Dog, do not throw it away immediately after you use it once. We simply cannot keep doing this. This is another reason to limit our takeout food. It’s wrapped in layers of paper and plastic that we immediately trash. Bring your own container for coffee at the coffee shop. Some restaurants will even let you bring your own to-go container. I’ve done it!
Buy second hand. Buy things from thrift shops or lawn sales. You can find some really unique items that you won’t find new in a store. There is an ENDLESS amount of used stuff in the world. Vast, I tell you. A sea of used crap, some of which is not crap at all but practically brand now. Yes, it takes longer to find it, but what’s your hurry?
Find free stuff. There are plenty of ways to find free stuff. You may not be into dumpster diving, but you can peruse Freecycle or your local “buy nothing” group. Nextdoor also has free stuff and sometimes Facebook marketplace.
When I see all the food and products people waste or throw away, I think, “Gosh, you all must be RICH because you can just throw perfectly good stuff in the trash!” Sometimes when people tell me they feel poor or broke, I want to know if they’re “can’t afford food” poor or “can’t afford the new $1000 iPhone” poor. Because that second one is a very privileged sort of “poor.” We do not need to keep up with the unreasonable consumer habits that are thrust upon us. Break free! Do your own thing. Don’t impoverish yourself for capitalism.
🦩 Everyday Adventures
Trying to be Clever
I went to the Sunday market last weekend instead of the Saturday morning market. (I was vending my book at the Jack Kerouac House that afternoon and needed to get ready.)
I walked around all the vendors and stopped at one with beautiful little bread dipping plates. I still have some dipping spice from Istanbul, and it’s so hard to use on a regular plate. While checking out these plates, I looked at the rest of this vendor’s wares… truffle powders!
As you may know, I am very fond of popcorn. I make it in a small pot on my stove with a thin layer of olive oil. Then I sprinkle salt on it. That’s it. It’s delicious. I could eat it every day.
But truffle powder is a game changer. I decided to pay the $18 for this small jar, knowing it would last me a long time because it’s strong, and I will only use a small amount each time. Adding adventure to my life is as easy as buying a tasty food item that will excite my taste buds.
The cap on this powder is a little weird. I’d rather it was more like a shaker with small holes. So, I decided to take a salt shaker I had and fill it mostly with salt and then some of this truffle powder. I even found a silicone wine bottle cover to keep the moisture out. The problem I am finding, though, is that the powder does not spread evenly throughout the shaker. It clumps to one side. I do not understand at all why it is doing this. I guess because it's a powder and the salt is crystallized.
My main goal here is not to use too much powder and spread it evenly over the popcorn, but it doesn’t seem to want to do that!
Thank You!
I wanted to say a sincere THANKS to my paid subscribers. You guys are the best, and I appreciate your support of my creative endeavors and wordy opinions on things. If I didn’t think anyone was listening or cared, I wouldn’t keep doing this.
My book has been getting some great attention lately, too. As you can imagine, it’s pretty timely right now, and people are very receptive to it. I had a fantastic reception (lots of snapping and clapping) to the sections I read last weekend at the Jack Kerouac House.
📑 Project Updates
New Website
In my continuing efforts to promote anti-capitalism and the rejection of billionaires, I'm working on a new website with a friend. It will make fun of billionaires and promote ways to help defund them.
Here’s a sneak peak at the logo:
This will be a great place to let off steam writing satirical articles about terrible people, selling custom designed swag, and pointing people to books and resources on the same topic.
I'll be sharing the URL soon.

Elsie, try putting some uncooked grains of white rice in the shaker along with the truffle powder. That's what they do with salt shakers in restaurants to keep the moisture at bay.
